Position Purpose

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Engineer, Polymer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be a material subject matter expert with extensive lab experience and a deep understanding of polymer processing, including molding and extrusion. This role requires proficiency in thermoanalytical methods, design of experiments, and screening methods development. The successful candidate will also have experience with regrinds and sustainable materials, project management skills, and a passion for coaching young talents.

Apply polymer & materials science engineering fundamental principles to solve deep technical challenges primarily related to polymer materials and their use in both our products & processes. This corporate engineering role serves all existing businesses, with typical project assignments lasting 6 months to 2 years and ranging from initial research projects through stage 5 manufacturing support. Our organization provides a flexible base of resources and knowledge which facilitates rapid solution development and emphasizes strong technical competence. This candidate will serve as a material expert with interactions including raw materials, suppliers, lab simulations, research, development, and manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Chemical, Polymer, Materials Science & Engineering or related discipline
  • 5+ years of related work experience
  • Proficiency in thermoanalytical methods, design of experiments, and polymer processing techniques
  • Understanding of polymer structure-property relationships and knowledge of polymer analytical techniques
  • Experience with sustainable materials and practices, including the use of regrinds
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex projects from conception to completion
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills, with a proven track record of coaching and developing young talents
  • Must be available for significant travel, primarily domestic, to multiple locations to support business needs

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and execute experiments to investigate and optimize polymer formulations and processes
  • Lead initiatives focused on the use of regrinds and sustainable materials, promoting environmentally friendly practices
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget and quality standards
  • Design and conduct experiments to prove or disprove hypotheses related to material properties and processing techniques
  • Drive root cause understanding to improve yield, extend asset life, reduce costs, improve product attributes and enable new products
  • Develop and perform laboratory testing regimen and process simulations to extend knowledge base and prove/disprove hypotheses
  • Maintain high quality engineering principles, including extensive use of statistics, structured problem-solving methods such as KT, DoE, and DMAIC six sigma tools

The range for this position is $92,766.00 - $127,554.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
