THIS POSITION MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR A HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE. THE AMOUNT OF TELEWORK IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE DEPARTMENT AND IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS BUSINESS NEEDS ARISE.

Under the general direction of the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor), the incumbent is responsible for utilizing technical expertise and analytical skills in the performance of the more difficult responsibilities which affect the entire accounting operation and may be given broad discretion in the solution of problems.

Incumbent will work extensively in the State of California accounting system, Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal), and will be expected to document and update procedures for FI$Cal modules used in the Cash and Benefits Unit (CBU). The Senior Accounting Specialist serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the development of job aids and other learning materials for FI$Cal users for the accounting modules, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger modules. The incumbent will be responsible to assist staff with entering manual and catch-up transactions into the FI$Cal system, ensuring that the budget details are accurate and complete. As issues arise and if policy decisions need to be researched or developed, this position would take lead to research, analyze and provide alternatives for resolutions. The incumbent is expected to have the broad knowledge, experience, and skill in accounting required to successfully oversee the significant workload responsibilities of this position. This position will also be the primary back up for the Unemployment Insurance desks.
