Job Description
The Congressional Budget Office is a small nonpartisan agency that provides economic and budgetary analysis to the Congress. CBO's Office of Financial Management, which consists of five staff members, seeks an intern with a strong work ethic for 10 weeks in the summer of 2025. Most of CBO's employees are in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, and the internships will be operating in a hybrid workplace. The successful candidate will work directly with the agency's Chief Financial Officer in support of the Management and Business Information Systems Director and Chief Administrative Officer.
The intern will participate in a wide range of tasks in business operations and financial management, including documenting standard operating procedures and process improvement initiatives, working with accounts payable, assisting with data automation and validation, performing analysis, tracking and monitoring contracts and budget execution, and more.
The internship offers the opportunity to work with staff members at various levels in many of the agency's divisions. Interns will develop skills in business operations, project management, and financial management, including budgeting and accounting.
Qualifications Candidates must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in business, accounting, or a related field. Candidates pursuing an undergraduate degree must be entering their junior or senior year in the fall.
Candidates must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, effectively handle multiple tasks, and complete projects under tight deadlines. Excellent written and oral communications skills, technical skills, and attention to detail are essential, as is the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Salary and Benefits The hourly rate ranges from $15 to $24 and will be based on educational attainment and related experience. The 10-week internship program runs from May 27, 2025, to August 1, 2025; there may be some flexibility in those dates. Although summer interns are expected to work a 40-hour week, an alternative schedule may be considered.
