This recruitment will be used to fill three full-time Temporary Biological Sciences Research Technician1 positions for the Department Forest Ecosystems and Society at Oregon State University ( OSU ).
We are recruiting three summer field positions to work in ponderosa pine and mixed conifer forests in the eastern Oregon Cascades. Field technicians will assist in data collection supporting research projects focused on vegetation and surface fuel responses to operational-scale thinning and prescribed burning, co-led by Drs. Meg Krawchuk ( OSU ) and Harold Zald ( USFS ). The goal of the project is to improve our understanding of long-term changes in forest composition, structure, and fuels after large operational-scale fuel reduction and restoration treatments.
The technicians will assist the graduate student and/or crew leader with tree and vegetation measurements, fuels measurements, data recording, data management, and plot location.
Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty):
Two years of college-level courses in (specific field of biological science); OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

These positions require the ability to work long hours outdoors in in all weather conditions in a remote forested environment. The ability to navigate off-trail, hike up to five miles per day and traverse uneven terrain is required. Employees must take care not to substantially damage or influence plants or trees while conducting work.
Housing is rustic with shared kitchen, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Full-service community of La Pine is a 20 minute drive from Pringle Falls. Field season will be for approximately 10 weeks, from the middle of June to the end of August and potentially into early/mid September depending on fire season and weather. The official start date will be determined at time of offer.
Free on-site housing is provided on the banks of the Deschutes River, at the Pringle Falls Experimental Forest.
