Job Description:

  • Identifies and evaluates strategic opportunities pertinent to the objectives of the University and its academic unit leaders.
  • Guides faculty and staff by providing best practices in partnership structures, process recommendations and connecting them to internal resources to bring programs to fruition. 
  • Negotiates and executes partnership agreements, ensuring compliance and alignment with University policies and objectives.
  • Oversees and coordinates the development of strategic programs on a project management basis, to include identification of funding sources, development of budgets and projections, and development and preparation of funding proposals for global partnerships and programs.
  • Oversees projects that involve extensive cooperation and coordination between offices and units.
  • Builds internal relationships and collaborates closely with colleagues and units across the University to leverage resources and maximize institutional research impact.
  • Represents the University in meetings and networking events with external partners to promote research capabilities and explore potential partnerships.
  • Stays abreast of industry trends, funding opportunities and regulatory developments relevant to global partnership.
  • Leads the planning and execution of events, such as symposiums, conferences, workshops and seminars.
  • Supervises two or more direct reports responsible for partnership development, event planning and administrative support.
  • Prepares written and/or verbal presentations and proposals on complex issues and delivers to a broad variety of audiences.
  • Acts as a lead researcher and planner for a wide array of efforts led by the department/division.
  • Leads the creation and maintenance of an internation outreach database. Prepares and implements campus-based itineraries for visiting international delegations.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate degree in a related field.

Experience:

  • At least 10 years of work experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified, including 7 or more years of work experience at an equivalent level of authority and/or scope.
  • Background working in a global context or with global partners.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of project management principles, practices, techniques, and tools.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a diverse community.
  • Identify, evaluate, and accurately assess the viability of strategic opportunities available to the University.
  • Set priorities and manage multiple projects; demonstrated experience working on a portfolio with competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information, exercise discretion, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Operate in a fast-paced environment and deal with ambiguity.
  • Familiarity with central administration within a complex research university environment.
  • Knowledge of higher education and the University of Chicago.
  • Consulting or client-facing work experience.

Working Conditions

  • Early mornings, evenings or weekend work on occasion.
  • May include international travel.
  • Minimal physical effort. Typical tasks include keyboarding, bending, stooping to reach files, light lifting, sitting, standing.
  • An alternative work schedule is offered, in office 2 days per week, work from home 3 days per week. However, there may be times that attendance in office will be required.
