It offers comprehensive social work services and programming to meet the myriad needs of the diverse populations we serve. We believe that total patient care must emphasize the physical, emotional, and social needs of each patient and their care partners. Social Workers collaborate within interprofessional teams to serve patients and the larger community from both a micro and macro level including both direct care and prevention. Founded in 1907, the Department of Social Work Services at the Mount Sinai Hospital is one of the oldest hospital social work departments in the nation with over 450 licensed social workers employed across more than 65 different program/service areas. Employment in our department provides a pathway to LCSW licensure as well as access to a broad range of continuing education, professional development and extra-curricular opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • The social worker will provide long and short-term treatment to children/families with a range of social and mental health issues, conduct groups of both a therapeutic and health education nature, and help families negotiate entitlement programs and access comprehensive health care and outside referrals for their children.
  • Interest and skill in trauma informed care as well as play therapy is important. Emphasis is on collateral/parent work.
  • Classroom observations and interventions maybe part of the work.
  • Collaboration with Board of Education and school personnel as well as Mount Sinai and school health staff is the cornerstone of this program and its work.
  • Flexibility, a capacity to work in a complex, informal structure, and an ability to adapt one’s work to the daily aspects of the school day and the school’s educational mission is essential.
  • Coverage in our other Mount Sinai Pediatric School Based Health Center sites may be required.

Note: this position is full-time during the school calendar. Pay is for the 10-month school calendar but is spread across a 12-month period, resulting in 0.84 part-time salary.
