Job Description

Join the vibrant and dedicated faculty at Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor as our Choral Music Program Director beginning in the 2025–26 school year. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a well-established choral program that nurtures musical excellence and creativity across grades 3–12. This position is flexible between leading our full-time program or being adjusted to a part-time role at either the Lower or the High School.

As a Waldorf school, music is at the heart of our curriculum. Beginning in Grade 3, students participate in weekly singing class, reflecting our commitment to holistic, well-rounded education as they continue into the combined chorus in middle school. In high school, students continue their musical journey by participating in our high - school chorus, and many choose to join a small vocal ensemble as well. 

Key Responsibilities:  

• Teach choral music classes to students in grades 3-12, including Middle School and High School chorus, and small High School ensembles. 
• Organize and lead 2 High School concerts and 1 Middle School concert.
• Collaborate with faculty to provide music at school and community events. 
• Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student growth and creativity.

Offering Spanish and German for grades 1-12, alongside dynamic movement programs and robust fine and practical arts, our choral and instrumental music programs enrich our comprehensive educational offerings. The Lower School Campus (Early Childhood – 8th grade) is on 13 wooded and grassy acres and currently enrolls nearly 240 students. The campus is set in a suburban neighborhood, close to the river. Outside of our campus, the extended Ann Arbor area offers the richness and diversity of a university town with a small-town feel. Our school is close to the Anthroposophical Society, a biodynamic farm, and an Anthroposophical Health center. It has many events, festivals, art, music, dance and social activities throughout the year. Ann Arbor is rich in natural landscapes, providing many scenic parks along the river and nearby lakes. Compensation

We offer an equitable salary structure, with a range from $45,000-60,000 based on experience and qualifications. Our full-time benefits package includes health insurance, base and matching 403b contributions, life/disability insurance and significant tuition remission for children. For candidates moving to Ann Arbor, we offer some relocation support for those moving from out of town.   

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Choral Conducting, Vocal Performance, or related field 
• Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching elementary, middle, and/or high school students. 

Skills & Experience:  

• Proficiency in teaching choral music, with both large choral and small ensemble. 
• Ability to work with students across grades 3-12. 
• Strong piano/keyboard skills and ability to accompany rehearsals. 
• Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills. 
• Strong organizational and leadership skills to serve as a program coordinator. 

Additional Desired Qualities:  

• Michigan Teaching Certification 
• Professional performance experience 
• Waldorf music teacher training (expected to be completed within 3 years of hire date)
