The Museum of Vertebrate Zoology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for a Postdoc in the Nachman Lab, in the area of population genetics and evolutionary genomics.
The Nachman lab is hiring a postdoc as part of an NIH-funded project to study the genomic basis of environmental adaptation in house mice. House mice are native to Western Europe and were introduced into the Americas in association with humans during the last few hundred years. In this short time, mice have adapted to different environments through changes in morphology, behavior, and physiology. We seek to understand the genetic basis of this variation using a variety of approaches, including whole-genome sequencing of wild-caught mice across North and South America, studies of gene expression and chromatin accessibility, and genetic crosses using wild-derived inbred strains of mice from different environments. We are also using long-read data to study the role of structural variation, including insertions of transposable elements, in adaptation. The incumbent will work on existing projects in the lab and also have the opportunity to develop new projects in the context of our research program. An individual development plan will be created, and mentoring will be provided in all aspects of the position, including design and execution of experiments, data analysis, writing and presentation of results, and career development. This position will also provide opportunities for mentoring undergraduate students.
Responsibilities:
? Designing and executing experiments
PhD (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in a PhD (or equivalent international degree) program
? A PhD or equivalent international degree
o Ph.D. by the time of start date in evolutionary biology, population genetics, integrative biology, or some equivalent
