The Plant Records Manager is responsible for entering and maintaining the inventory of plant holdings at The Arboretum by overseeing the plant records database. The Plant Records Manager will also support research efforts within the Science & Conservation department through report generation and data analysis.
Essential Responsibilities - Maintain accurate plant records in the database by entering new accessions, de-accessions, notes, images, sources and other data updates. Plant records can include permanent living collections, display plantings, restoration projects, seed bank material and the herbarium collection.
- Conduct inventories of plant collections, displays, nurseries and seed bank by utilizing the mobile database and field equipment.
- Manage the mapping process of all new plantings, garden beds and infrastructure with the GPS equipment.
- Maintain and update GIS data relating to Arboretum base maps and plantings using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
- Manage all herbarium records by supporting data entry, label production, annotations and inventories.
- Participate in field collection of seeds and plant samples by collecting necessary data, vouchering samples and ensuring standard procedures are followed by all for quality control and support of seed bank records.
- Produce, install and maintain plant labels.
Qualifications - Associates degree in Plant Science, Horticulture, Environmental Studies, Botany, Taxonomy, or related field from an accredited university; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Familiarity with botanical nomenclature, plant records, mapping software and horticulture practices.
- One (1) year of demonstrated experience using GIS/GPS.
- Adept with technology. Previous experience with IrisBG software and/or ArcGIS preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail to maintain accurate and detailed records.
- Willingness to collaborate on content for articles, periodicals, blog posts and social media as requested.
- Ability to professionally interact with visitors, volunteers, and staff.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically strenuous work.

The annual compensation range for this exempt level position is $50,000-$55,000.
