Now hiring Group Practice Leaders to join us as we open both floors of the Oral Health Center!
Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine invites applications for full time, Group Practice Leaders (GPLs) in the KCU Oral Health Center at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The College of Dental Medicine serves patients across the lifespan in the four-state region, expanding access to dental care in this underserved rural area. Faculty must be motivated and engaged clinicians who are excited ensure an innovative and dynamic academic and clinical dental medicine program, educating the next generation of dentists while providing comprehensive care to a rural and diverse group of patients.

Group Practice Leaders are responsible for the management of the dental students' clinical practice team comprised of second, third and fourth-year pre-doctoral students. This position bridges the gap between the simulation laboratory and patient care, and requires the ability to work collaboratively with faculty throughout the College of Dental Medicine for clinical curriculum planning and patient care. The GPLs are ultimately responsible for the management of all patient care delivered within the groups. GPLs play a key role in predoctoral clinical operations and students' achievement of clinical competencies. GPLs may provide didactic and clinical education in the classroom, simulation lab, and/or Oral Health Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assures the safe and effective delivery of patient care by the dental students
  • Provides didactic and clinical education to students whether assisting or providing direct care
  • Conducts summative and formative student assessment and leads small group seminars
  • Works with the Assistant Group Practice Leader and Group Practice Coordinator to provide patient assignments to pre-doctorial students to ensure a well-rounded experience within the Oral Health Center
  • Comprehension of advanced technologies, digital workflow and/or dental implants to support expansion of the advanced technology curricula
  • Participates in the calibration of the group practice faculty
  • Works collaboratively with the pre-doctoral specialty faculty members and adjunct faculty when they are teaching in the pre-doctoral group practices
  • Monitors students' compliance with CDM's infection control & clinical guidelines
  • Supervises, educates and coaches students in the provision of patient care
  • Works with clinical examination boards to prepare dental students for the examinations
  • Serves on standing and ad hoc CDM committees

Qualifications:
  • D.D.S./D.M.D. degree
  • Active license in Missouri or have an active dental license in a US state or Canada and be eligible for licensure in Missouri; must obtain before start
  • Preference given to candidates with prior teaching experience and advanced training in general or restorative dentistry
  • Candidates must demonstrate a passion for dentistry, an enthusiasm for dental education, and a strong desire to teach students in a demanding, startup academic environment
