In this position, you will work closely with FTB's managers, technicians, architects, and technology and business partners to provide advanced EA analysis, consultation services, and recommendations in the strategic design and function of FTB's current and future technology solutions, continually moving the department towards our "To Be" state.  

This role demonstrates a depth of initiative, tact, and professionalism during internal and external collaborations, engaging in continual education on industry technology and best practices, digital transformation and operational trends to help identify and guide projects and initiatives that provide the greatest value to the department and citizens of California.

Working Conditions

This position is eligible for limited remote-working within California based on departmental guidelines and operational need. FTB has a minimum in-office requirement of four days per week for all positions including those that are eligible for telework.

  • Experience developing EA reference documentation (i.e. Target Architecture Models, Business and Technology Capability Models, etc.)
  • Experience researching, assessing, and providing strategic recommendations based on general requirements
  • Ability to document and diagram IT systems (preferably using formal design languages like ArchiMate or UML), understand how systems work interdependently, and how data flows
  • Ability to exercise initiative, good judgment, and make timely decisions while maintaining positive working relationships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with all levels of staff, customers, and stakeholders, including the ability to present ideas and explain complex technology concepts in plain language
  • Experience working with general purpose programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, C#, etc.), cloud solutions, Low Code Application Platforms (LCAP), or related technologies
  • Knowledge and understanding of, or willingness and ability to learn, FTB’s organization, business program areas, technology architecture, and processes
  • Knowledge of how different types of technology fit together to form an integrated IT solution
