About the Department

The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics competes at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics with the vision to reach Next Level Success for all 18 varsity teams and more than 500 student-athletes. The Bearcats have a proud athletics history, winning eight national championships and 117 conference titles. The Cincinnati men's basketball team is among the 15 winningest programs all-time, while the football team became the first American Athletic Conference program to compete in the College Football Playoff in 2021. Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati (UC), Department of Athletics seeks applications for a Director of Applied Sport Science (Applied Sport Science Specialist) to work with the football program. This is a full-time position, salaried with a comprehensive benefit package.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality applied sport science and recovery science support services to student-athletes. Within the comprehensive multi-disciplinary health and wellness team, oversee and analyze the performance monitoring, tracking and assessment of student-athletes while following University of Cincinnati and departmental policies, NCAA Division I, and Conference bylaws and regulations.  

Essential Functions

  • Collect, review, and provide in-depth analysis and reporting of daily data/information associated with optimal human performance, training and recovery for student-athletes.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the health and wellness team (performance, sports medicine, performance nutrition and sport psychology) and sport coaches on information needed to guide daily decision-making on human performance and recovery.
  • Develop, preview and implement best practices of applied sports science and recovery science.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a strategy for student personnel assistance with data collection, processing and analysis.
  • Provide leadership and management of data integration from all student-athlete service lines into a centralized athlete management system (AMS). Assist in all aspects of collaboration and implementation of the AMS.
  • Educate student-athletes, coaches and staff utilizing wellness and performance data collected.
  • Explore, evaluate and implement the latest technology and best practices for the advancement of student-athlete performance and health.
  • Manage sports science expenses, including third party hardware and software contracts.
  • Maintenance and inventory of all sports science-related equipment.
  • Required travel with team for away competitions.
  • Assist with presentations for recruiting visits, as requested.
  • Implement recovery modalities and programming for the student-athletes. If credentialed, oversee and manage this programming.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

Bachelor?s Degree in Health, Biological, or Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Data Analytics, or related field.

Required Experience

Five (5) years of related work experience.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Master?s Degree.
  • Previous experience in college athletics, professional sports organizations or a closely related field of human performance.
  • ACE, ACSM, NSCA, NASM, CPT, CES, AT, PT, CSCCa.
  • Must be able to work some nights, weekends and travel with the team.
