JOB SUMMARY The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and coordinating communications and marketing
programs, including writing, design, photography, speaking, purchasing for advertising, publications, media
(print, radio, newspaper, television, etc.), audio/video production, media production, social media platforms,
and events.
Essential Functions • Develop member communications including, but not limited to composition, layout, design, etc. of
member newsletter production, member handbooks, annual reports, pamphlets, media kits,
brochures, bill inserts, newspaper advertisements, public service announcements and web page
• Responsible for the Cooperative’s media and member communications programs to provide
information, ensure member awareness, and promote member and employee involvement.
Serves as the media contact for all general inquiries. Responsible for developing positive
relationships with reporters/editors to gain positive media publicity. Manage the cooperative’s
social media presence (e.g., LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
• Coordinate and direct the research, writing, page layout, editing, photography and graphic design
of published material. Editing material written or submitted, establishing mutually agreed on
deadline dates with the printer, correcting proofs, proofreading, and generally ensuring high
quality for the publications
• Create, direct and develop public information activities including planning, researching, budgeting,
preparing, designing and coordinating the production of publications and materials for distribution
to internal and external publications
• Coordinate with other departments to develop and implement marketing campaigns for the
cooperative’s programs and services
• Develop and disseminate communications materials in support of rules, regulations, practices,
policies, rates and related information, and inform members accordingly
• Manage and coordinate photography work, including video camera work, as necessary. Organize
and maintain employee, director and general photo and slide library
• Develop, recommend, direct and implement the image advertising of the Cooperative. Guide and
assist with the development, direction, production and placement of the promotions for the
Cooperative's marketing programs and member services
• Gather and interpret data through appropriate member attitude and end-use surveys to assist the
Cooperative in determining and providing the services desired by the membership
• Plan and coordinate the Cooperative Annual Membership Meeting. Oversee various functions of
the Annual Membership Meeting and preparation of materials.
• Administer web content for sites to include, but not limited to, corporate website, corporate
intranet, online glossary/wiki and social media. Maintaining electronic sites' appearance and
content by developing and enforcing content and display standards and for ensuring creative and
technical standards are met
• Administer the content on all internal and external electronic signage used by the cooperative to
communicate with members, the public and employees. Work with content creators and web
developers to manage website and blog content

QUALIFICATIONS

3-5 years Experience in the areas of communications, graphic and creative designs, event planning or related activities. Required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities •Public Speaking and Public relations experience
•Must have specific knowledge of public relations concepts and communications methods
•Must be able to review, organize and disseminate information in a timely manner
•Experience using desktop publishing software to design communications materials is necessary
•Basic photography and videography skills
•Good knowledge of social media and the best ways to utilize each platform
•Advanced knowledge of design and publishing concepts
•Excellent organizational skills and superior attention to detail
•Must be knowledgeable in computer hardware, software and peripherals as they relate to publications trends
•Thorough working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver and related programs. Understanding Adobe Digital Publishing Suite is a plus
•Working knowledge of website design and content management, digital asset management, mobile apps, illustration, HTML and CSS, social media, scanning and type
•Must have demonstrated knowledge of fundamentals of graphic design, web design and overall creativity
•Knowledge and demonstrated experience with cross-browser and cross-platform issues (IE, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Chrome)
