Summary

Power Supply Engineering Services provided technical engineering support to PGE’s generation facilities. Civil Engineering ensures that project, maintenance, and compliance work supports safe, efficient, and reliable power generation. Projects in support of the generation facilities will touch all disciplines in civil engineering and may include civil, structural, geotechnical, and water resource designs.

A Civil Engineer will apply engineering design and analysis skills to a wide variety of challenging projects. Typical project work would be task focused in support of larger multi-disciplinary projects as well as design management of more defined scope work. This position provides the opportunity to develop with a combination of in-field and office work delivering results from conception to commissioning project lifecycles. Creativity, communication, and collaboration are key when working on state of the art and first of its kind projects.

Responsibilities

Engineering Standards

  • Maintains currency in state-of-the-art engineering practices and discerns the need for and provides guidance and direction to colleagues on engineering processes and standards.
  • Supports civil engineering initiatives through extended knowledge of civil engineering principles and all applicable codes and regulatory requirements and standards.
  • Applies knowledge to plan, develop, coordinate and direct major and minor project assignments with complex features associated with design, construction, maintenance or testing; discerns the need for and provides technical guidance and support to other engineers and customers.

Engineering Production

  • Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects, including establishing work plans to be applied.
  • Provides civil engineering and construction support for generation and substation facilities; Leads development of complex designs and provides technical support and guidance to less experienced colleagues. Determines design requirements to assist construction activities and determines project requirements and scope.

Project Coordination

  • Actively coordinates with other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects, including representing the team to interdepartmental and external (regulatory) stakeholders.
  • Plans, develops and coordinates projects with complex design, construction, maintenance and testing elements in support of engineering and construction needs of generation and substation facilities, provides accurate capital budget and job estimates.

Knowledge Sharing

  • Serves as a technical specialist and provides consultation/guidance to project teams in a specific practice area. Actively fosters knowledge management and provides mentoring; implements resource management strategy.
  • Provides and coordinates training on new codes and regulatory requirements and standards. Trains technicians, draftsmen, designers and less experience colleagues on new codes and standards. Provides technical training to department and company through internal training programs.

Qualifications

Required, P3 Senior Level:

  • Education Requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. ABET accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred.
  • Experience Typically, five or more years in civil engineering or four or more years in a related field with PE license. FERC Dam Safety Surveillance and Monitoring Engineering experience preferred
  • Certifications, Licenses and Training Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred; may be required based upon role.
  • Valid Driver's License required

Required, P2 intermediate Level:

  • Education Requires a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Geotechnical focus preferred. ABET accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred.
  • Experience Typically, two or more years in civil engineering
  • Certifications, Licenses and Training Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam strongly preferred; may be required based upon role.
  • Valid Driver's License required

Preferred:

  • Dam Inspection and monitoring experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of design and construction of concrete, steel, timber and other structures and/or water conveyance systems, hydraulic systems and other auxiliary equipment
  • Intermediate project management skills in managing large complex projects
  • Advanced ability to review, evaluate and analyze technical information, policies and reports.

Physical demands:

  • Ability to work long hours
  • Ability to work a variable schedule
  • Ability to report to work and perform work during periods of severe inclement weather
  • Driving frequently with in Service territory (at least once a week or more)
  • Overnight inside/outside the service territory occasionally (one to two times a month or less)

  • Unstable surfaces requiring balance (i.e. moving equipment) on
  • Elevated areas (i.e. catwalks, roofs and high buildings)

  • Stairs (over 10 stairs)
  • Ladders (over 10 rungs)
  • Office, plant or field environment
  • PGE supports hybrid flexible work arrangements; and will have a combination of in-the-office and working offsite and in the field. However, these arrangements may change due to business needs or changes in responsibility.

Compensation Range:

$81,450.00 - $160,500.00

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
