Under direction of the CNS II of the Field Services Administration (FSA) Section in the Nutrition Services Division (NSD), the Child Nutrition Supervisor l (CNS I) supervises the activities of the Region 3-Mountain staff who conduct administrative reviews (AR), provide technical assistance (TA), and train agencies participating in state and federal Child Nutrition Programs (CNP). Specifically, the incumbent performs the following duties:

Supervise the activities of eight Child Nutrition Consultant, analytical, and support staff who are in charge of conducting ARs, vendor reviews, and management technical reviews, in San Bernardino, Inyo, and Riverside County, and parts of Los Angeles County. Prepare and discuss annual staff evaluations, training, development, and employee performance with staff. Review and evaluate reports prepared by staff as a result of ARs. Supervise and assist with reviewing nutrition programs to determine agency compliance with state and federal regulations including evaluating nutritional standards, record keeping, business and accounting procedures, claiming procedures, and free and reduced-price meal policies. Identify cross-training needs and contribute to training curriculum for staff. Facilitate the hiring process by conducting interviews, and evaluating and recommending candidates, and preparing duty statements. Direct staff in the proper interpretation of applicable laws and regulations that support the legal basis for documenting AR findings; meet with staff to facilitate a common understanding of CNP rules and regulations to ensure consistent and defensible implementation of policies; distribute current regulations, data, and reports as required. Attend and actively participate in mandatory meetings; serve on policy committees to assist with the development and interpretation of policy for the NSD; assume responsibility for complex TA as requested; review the activities and correspondence of staff; and consult with school boards, school administrators, health-related professional organizations, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Collaborate with the FSA leadership team to develop and maintain high-quality statewide monitoring processes.

The position requires at least 35 percent travel and throughout the state of California as needed. The current hybrid schedule through the end of 2025 requires a minimum of two days per week in the field or reporting to the office in-person. This is subject to change in 2026, and the candidate must be willing to be in the field or in-person in the office four days per week.

This position is headquartered in Pomona and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. A hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and physically reporting to the office.
