Administrative Assistant - Veteran's Affairs Location Greenwood, SC :

Full Time- Administrative Assistant Position with the VA office of Greenwood SC.

  • Deals with personal and private financials for veterans and their dependents.
  • HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) is indeed crucial for veterans when processing claims, as it ensures the protection of their medical information during interactions with healthcare providers and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Handling stress and irate veterans requires a combination of empathy, active listening, and effective communication. It's essential to remain calm and patient, acknowledging their concerns and frustrations while providing clear and constructive responses also maintain a professional demeanor, and focusing on problem-solving can help de-escalate situations.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High School Diploma (minimum), computer skills with Microsoft Office including, Word, Excel, etc. Effective communication skills, organizational skills, time management skills, and the ability to multitask. Must be able to travel for training and education for Veteran Affairs.

General Description

The purpose of this class within the organization is to accomplish a variety of complex and/or specialized administrative and secretarial duties; ensures effective and efficient office operations. Provides assistance to department management, co-workers and the general public as required

Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Essential Functions:

Communicates with the public, co-workers and other department employees in person, by telephone, email and fax. Often provides first impression of office to customers as the front desk agent.

Accomplishes various administrative duties which include preparing, indexing and filing correspondence, faxing and copying.

Processes invoices and reconciles vendor statements.

Provides administrative support for budget preparation and tracking, purchase tracking, and accounts payable and receivable.

Assists with payroll entry each period.

Additional Duties:

Answers telephone, transfers and directs all inquiries to appropriate person or office.

Enters, edits and updates information in data files and hard copy.

Keeps office area clean and organized.

Performs related work as assigned based on the needs specific to the department.
